Sometimes the destination is just as important as the journey despite how the saying goes. And when it matters, what better place to rest your head than some of the world’s most amazing sleeping arrangements. I’m always looking out for cool spots to stay and here are a couple that I’ve come across that are on my bucket list.
Ice Hotel, Sweden
Price: 1250 – 7000 SEK ($189 – $1058) per night depending on room and season
Description: The Ice hotel is built from scratch every year during winter and lasts until April. While they offer warm rooms the real thrill is the cold accommodations in the varying suites where everything is made completely of snow and ice except some insulation on the beds to keep your bum warm. Because of lack of wind the ice actually insulates and keeps the room at a constant brisk temperature of -5 to -8 degrees C, (23-17 degrees F). Yep, this was the one featured in the Bond movie Die Another Day.
ICEHOTEL – a world-famous hotel and an art exhibition made of ice and snow. Founded in 1989, it is reborn in a new guise every winter, in the Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi – 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. The Torne River, the arts, and creating a setting for life-enriching moments are at the heart of it all.

Poseidon Undersea Resort, Fiji
Price: $30,000 per couple per week….pocket change right?
Description: Although this one is still being built, it promises to be amazing. And with a price tag like that, it should. The hotel and rooms will be situated 40ft or so under the waters surface with giant acrylic windows promising a very Vernian 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea feel. Oh, and did I mention the fact that it comes with SCUBA lessons, spa treatments, wine tastings, a library, and underwater dining.
Activities abound for adventurers who wish to explore the unimaginable, like maneuvering a personal Triton submarine through a lagoon, exploring the ocean’s depths as the passenger of a 1,000-foot luxury submersible, and scuba diving in pristine waters. Those who seek solitude will find the epitome of relaxation when indulging in marine-focused spa treatments and meditation under the gaze of only the moon and stars. Whether traveling alone, as a pair, or in a group, you will find what you seek.
