On our second trip to Walt Disney World, we decided that even though we LOVED Coronado Springs we would stay at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort. This Disney resort is connected to Port Orleans Riverside so you are able to share amenities with both resorts which is a great perk!
Our First Stay at Port Orleans French Quarter
I was worried by the pictures I saw online that I wouldn’t like this resort as much as I did the Coronado. We found a great promotion that saved us a lot of money by switching to Port Orleans French Quarter, so I felt like we really had to give it a try.
When we drove up I wasn’t disappointed. The grounds and buildings were beautiful and fun. We were in building #5 so we were very close to the main building AND the pool!
I was very impressed with our room. We stayed in a garden view room and the view was amazing (more about that later). The décor was tasteful yet bright and the space was perfect. My son thought it was fun, but it wasn’t super “in-your-face Disney”.
We ran into one tiny problem…
The only downfall to our garden view room was every night from 8-10 PM there was a movie in the courtyard. The movie is LOUD. It sounded like loud booms during the loud parts of the movie and the whole time I was worried that it would wake up my 4-year-old son. It never did, but you know how scary it is that your grumpy child is gonna wake up and never go back to bed!
The pool at Port Orleans French Quarter is FUN with a unique water slide!
Now let me tell you that the pool is fantastic! It’s huge, it’s a really fun theme, and the water slide was a great feature! We also used the spa quite a few times as well and I thought the temperature was perfect. Port Orleans French Quarter provides the towels poolside so there was no reason to bring towels with you to the pool. They also provide life jackets for little ones who may still need some help!
Don’t forget to try the beignets!
Port Orleans French Quarter has one quick service location – Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory! They have beignets and they are DELICIOUS! They also have a pool sidebar and a lounge at certain hours. Remember – you can take the water taxi (or walk) over to Port Orleans Riverside and eat there as well!
The best part was definitely the riverboat!
I think my whole family would agree that our favorite feature at Port Orleans French Quarter was the riverboat ride to and from Port Orleans Riverside and Disney Springs. We took the boat both ways a couple of times and really enjoyed it. It’s a slow relaxing ride, but much more fun than taking the bus! A little tip… take the boat over to Port Orleans Riverside to shop in their gift shop. It is about twice as big as the shop at Port Orleans French Quarter with many more options!
Overall I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants a smaller resort with many Disney perks!
