Myrtle Beach Boardwalk
The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Entertainment District features oceanfront restaurants, shops, attractions, spectacular views, and cool ocean breezes. You’ll find numerous sitting alcoves along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk route with benches to relax and enjoy the views. The alcoves are perfect for snapping pictures of the Atlantic Ocean and our beautiful coastline.
Baby stroller and wheelchair friendly! The boardwalk has several stroller and wheelchair-accessible ramps available all along the route.
Three sections of the boardwalk enable a scenic and protected walkway over a mile long. There are scenic overlooks, places to rest, and, of course, a bustling boardwalk shops section.
Strolling along the ocean in Myrtle Beach, the heart of South Carolina’s Grand Strand just got more interesting. Now you can “Walk the Boards” as people say (in other beach resorts) to walk along the ocean. Myrtle Beach has opened a new feature just inside the protective dunes of the Atlantic beach – The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade.
Three sections of the boardwalk/promenade enable a scenic and protected walkway over a mile long. There are scenic overlooks, places to rest, and, of course, a bustling boardwalk shops section. Below are two introductory pictures (sorry, they’ll have to do until we get some more. These are used by permission, with thanks to the Myrtle Beach Road Trip Travel and Leisure website.
Above is the Merchant’s Plaza area of the New Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. The Merchant’s Plaza was “christened” by an abundance of celebrating graduates during the 2010 Myrtle Beach Senior Week. Plyler Park along the Boardwalk provides a transition between two of the three “sections” of the Boardwalk. Here is a place to relax and enjoy being outdoors in Myrtle Beach on a nice day – enjoying the ocean view and breezes.
Plyler Park
Plyer Park is located about the midsection of The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Located right on Ocean Boulevard, it’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll or a romantic picnic. Not to mention, it offers some of the best views of the Atlantic Ocean available anywhere in the city.
What makes Plyler Park so special is its extensive boardwalk and promenade. It’s not just a straight walkway – there are plenty of turns, twists, and winding paths to explore. There are also benches and tables at various points throughout the park for visitors to sit down and take in the sights. Plus, there’s a playground for kids to enjoy, making this the ideal spot for families looking for a fun day out.
Of course, no visit to Plyler Park would be complete without taking a few moments to appreciate the stunning sunsets that can be seen every night. The boardwalk offers unparalleled views of the sky as the sun gradually fades away, leaving behind an array of dazzling colors that stretch as far as the eye can see.
Myrtle Beach Sky Wheel
The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel may well be the first “Wonder of Myrtle Beach”! Reaching 187 feet high, a “flight” in one of 42 glass-enclosed, temperature-controlled gondolas is simply awe-inspiring.
What a perfect day! On a warm and sunny fall afternoon, 2 Myrtle Beach locals and 4 out of town visitors decided to take a ride on the new Myrtle Beach Skywheel Ferris wheel. After purchasing tickets, the group waited in line for approximately 5 to 6 minutes as the group ahead of us completed their Skywheel ride. When the previous group finished up their ride, gondola #13 stopped at our waiting platform and the six of us boarded. Skywheel attendants were very courteous and offered to take a picture of all 6 of us in the gondola. So, after taking about a half dozen pictures with three different cameras, he shut the gondola door and sent us on our way.
The six of us enjoyed a nice leisurely ride in our climate-controlled gondola and caught just beautiful views of the Myrtle Beach shoreline and the sun shimmering off the calm Atlantic Ocean. After we completed our ride, Doris, who is the Skywheel Assistant Manager, volunteered to take another dozen or so photos of the group. Doris even suggested we get a few photos of the steps up to the Skywheel platform so she could get the Skywheel itself in the photos. Thanks to Doris and her staff at the Myrtle Beach Skywheel for such an enjoyable experience! We gladly tip our hats off to you and your crew for the excellent and friendly customer service. Please enjoy the pictures in our Myrtle Beach Skywheel Gallery.
The Bowery
The Bowery is located just off The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. The place is always packed and has entertained visitors for over 70 years.
Since 1944, The Bowery in Myrtle Beach has entertained millions of visitors from around the globe. The Bowery bartenders have probably tapped more mugs of beer than just about anywhere else. The Bowery is across the street from Plyler Park, just a minute’s walk from the central part of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk on 9th Ave. North. This is a place that has history and tradition, visitors return to The Bowery year after year because it never changes.
Its place in music history is secure thanks to it being the original home of the first Country Music Supergroup, ALABAMA.
ALABAMA was the house band at The Bowery from 1973 to 1980. On April 21, 1980, ALABAMA signed with music industry giant RCA, the rest is country music history. The band would rack up a string of 21 consecutive number-one hits. 21 more would follow, rewarding the band with 42 number-one singles.
Their stay at The Bowery is immortalized in the songs “Tar Top” and “Dancin’, Shaggin’ On The Boulevard.”
The current house band is The Bounty Hunters, they have been entertaining visitors for the past 8 years with their brand of high energy country rock music.
The walls of The Bowery are plastered full of history with over 70 years of memories and fun. The place is always packed, so it’s best to arrive early. Live music Monday to Saturday night, the show starts at 8:30.
2nd Avenue Pier
At the southernmost end of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is the longest pier in Myrtle Beach. Stretching nearly 910 feet into the blue Atlantic Ocean, the Second Avenue North Pier is open year-round for fishing and those who just enjoy pier walks. Pier operating hours are from 7:00 am until 1:00 am during peak season which is usually May-June-July-August. The pier closes at 7 pm on Wednesday nights for the merchant’s weekly fireworks show. For those who desire a bite to eat or enjoy a cold beverage, a restaurant and open-air bar are available.
To help with the cost and upkeep of the pier, a $1 per person fee is charged for those who just want to take a walk on the pier. Keep the receipt as it is good all day just in case you want to go back. For those of us who like drowning bait. Daily pier fishing passes are available at the tackle shop. The cost is $9.00. You can also buy bait and rent your rod and reel. Bait (Shrimp, Mullet, and squid) is $6.00 + tax per package. Rod rental package is $25 per day plus a $10.00 deposit that’s refunded when the gear is returned. A fishing license is not required when fishing from the pier, but if you want to surf fish then a license will be required.
