The Carnegie Science Centre is located in North Shore, a neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Its doors were opened to the public on October 5, 1991.
The Carnegie Science Centre is easily the museum with the highest number of visitors in Pittsburgh. This place is devoted to people who strive to learn and overcome their curiosities of regular, everyday life by connecting technology with science.
There is an interesting story that goes behind the construction of the Carnegie Science Centre. People have said in the past that just as the Ohio River, which flows right next door, got formed due to the convergence of the Allegheny and Monongahela, the Carnegie Science Centre also got formed due to the convergence of two distinctive local bodies, the Buhl Science Centre and the Carnegie Institute.
The Carnegie Institute formerly included a Music Hall, Library, Museum of Art, and the Museum of Natural History.
This place had opened in Pittsburgh’s Oakland locality way back in November 1895. Pittsburgh witnessed the addition of another feather to its crown of planetariums in the form of the Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science on October 24; 1939.
Buhl became a doorway to scientific information and professions in scientific pursuits for a large number of people from Pittsburgh.
The Buhl building started breaking down in the 1980s and was badly in need of a refurbishment process. Around this point in time, the Carnegie Institute began showing some interest in merging with the Buhl Science Centre and the merger got completed in the year 1987 with the approval of each institution’s Board.
The product of the merger came to be known as the Carnegie Science Centre. Any travel guide Pittsburgh will be able to provide details about this place.
Carnegie Science Centre is also known for its outstanding service to the community and was conferred with the National Award for Museum Service in the year 2003. Hiring a Pittsburgh travel guide would enhance any visitors’ trip as the guides would be able to provide other information that would be of interest to the visitor.
